G.I. Joe: Renegades to go on “Hiatus” after one season

Yes, the unfortunate news comes straight from the Hub’s upfront presentation with media and investors.  An initial press release had no mention of G.I. Joe: Renegades whatsoever, so I contacted Public Relations at The Hub and received the unfortunate news directly from them:

“…we’re very pleased with the performance of G.I. JOE RENEGADES on The Hub. The series will go on hiatus at the end of season one while the second installment of the G.I. Joe movie franchise is being produced so Hasbro and Hasbro Studios can ensure the creative and storyline continuity that fans of the films and the series expect.  We’ll have original episodes into the summer and we envision resuming new animation following the movie.”

Whether the move is truly because of the film, or more based on lackluster ratings, who knows, but the truth remains that after the first season of G.I. Joe: Renegades, it will no longer be airing original episodes until 2013 at the earliest.

A true shame that it seems Hasbro and The Hub are unwilling to give it a chance.  Is half a season truly enough of a marker?  Apparently so.

Rest assured, the Renegades SuperSite isn’t going anywhere.  We will continue our up to date coverage of all things Renegades, and hope for some positive news down the road.
